On weekday mornings my standard breakfast fare is yogurt sprinkled with organic blueberries. I started eating yogurt in the '90s after taking antibiotics for almost 10 years to battle acne. I was afraid of developing candidas—an overgrowth of yeast in the body-because all those pills I took threw my levels of intestinal flora out of whack by destroying most of the bacteria that lived in my gut.

Since then I've tried to find a yogurt with a high concentration of probiotics—"good" bacteria that can help with digestion—to restore balance and keep my intestines running smoothly. Most products have adequate amounts of these bugs, but it's often hard to tell if the bacteria are still alive and functioning.

Yoplait's new Yo-Plus yogurt ($2.50 for a 4-pack, at grocery stores) has solved that problem for me. It contains Optibalance, a blend of probiotics like L. bulgaricus, S. thermophilus, and Bifidobacterium, and prebiotics (in the form of inulin, a chicory root extract) that help feed the bacteria to keep them alive until they reach your stomach.

A cup of the yogurt also provides 3 grams of fiber plus calcium, vitamins A and D, and, unlike a lot of popular yogurt brands, no high fructose corn syrup. It comes in four flavors: strawberry, cherry, peach, and vanilla (my favorite; it's thick and creamy and pairs nicely with tart, fresh berries). It's great to find a food my stomach and taste buds can agree on.
