Yellow+Blue 2008 Rosé Wine
By Christine Richmond, senior articles editor
Last night, I whipped up a healthy and eco-friendly dinner for me and my husband: I seared some pepper-crusted Alaskan salmon (from a sustainable fishery) and served it with a barley and roasted vegetable salad. To accompany the meal, I poured some Yellow+Blue 2008 Rosé Wine ($12 for 1 liter; ybwines.com for stores); its deep coral color and crisp mineral flavor complemented the salmon perfectly. And like the fish, the wine is also sustainable: Made with hand-harvested grapes from a certified organic vineyard in Spain, it comes packaged in a lightweight paper Tetra Pak container instead of glass. As pretty as wine is in a bottle, glass takes more energy to produce and is heavier to ship. Yellow+Blue estimates that their wines have a 54 percent smaller carbon footprint than those in bottles.
