For many of us, losing a pet is like losing a member of the family. To cope with your grief, it can help to write your feelings out in a letter, says Sharon Discorfano, author of Letters to Pushkin (lulu.com) and founder of letterstopushkin.com. Discorfano launched the site after discovering that writing letters to her beagle Pushkin helped her come to terms with his death. Visitors can post their letters on the site, share them with family and friends, or just keep them for themselves. Taking part in the community can be helpful, Discorfano says, because “Dealing with grief is deeply personal but also universal.”
