![]() Mom's Fresh Garlic & Basil ($8.50 /24 oz.; jelly.com) This chunky sauce is made with whole basil leaves, soft cloves of garlic, Sicilian olive oil, and unpeeled vine-ripened tomatoes, which have twice the vitamin C of hothouse tomatoes. (That's why ½ cup of the sauce provides 25 percent of your daily vitamin C needs.) |
![]() Bove's of Vermont Organic Vodka ($4 /16 oz.; boves.com) Slightly sweet and a little bit spicy, this hearty sauce is made with all-organic ingredients, including vodka from Maine and diced tomatoes. Heavy cream and aged Pecorino Romano cheese add richness but not too much saturated fat (one serving contains only 0.5 grams). |
![]() Amy's Kitchen Puttanesca ($6.40 /24.5 oz.; amys.com) A vegetarian take on the traditional puttanesca recipe, this sauce is filled with veggies like zucchini, carrots, and caramelized onions- and doesn't contain anchovies. Slow-cooked tomatoes and balsamic vinegar give the sauce its dark-red color. |
![]() Seeds of Change Sicilian Spicy Eggplant ($6 /24.5 oz.; seedsofchangefoods.com) Chile pepper gives this organic eggplant sauce some kick, but the flavor is balanced by a touch of sweet fig paste. The sauce's thick, almost meaty consistency makes it perfect for topping spaghetti, and one serving satisfies 40 percent of your daily iron needs. |
