Tip of the Day: Get omega-3s with flaxseed

November 6, 2008
Flaxseeds are one of the most potent vegetable-based sources of heart-healthy omega 3s. For digestibility and nutritional value, they’re best eaten after they’ve been ground. Sprinkle them over hot or cold cereal, cooked veggies, or into pancake batter.

Omega 3 fatty acids are an essential part of any diet. However, in today's society, most of fat is omega 6 fatty acids. To improve the ratio of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids, omega 3 supplementation is usually required. However, while flax seeds are rich in omega 3s, they are poorly absorbed from the gut. Omega 3 capsules are generally the way to go and will give you greater health impact.
