You can easily create a playlist that harnesses music's power and its ability to nurture you-no matter what your mood.


"There's no 'bad' music, other than music you don't like," says Daniel Levitin, Ph.D., professor of psychology and music at McGill University in Montreal. "What some people get from Frank Sinatra, others get from Frank Zappa." Suzanne Hanser, Ed.D., chair of the music therapy department at Berklee College of Music in Boston, suggests organizing CDs by the way they make you feel: "music to relax," "music to excite," or "music to bring back memories," for example. "Just a few minutes a day of music that's special to you can change your outlook," Hanser says. As you listen to a song, pay attention to your breathing and thinking to gain a greater understanding of how it affects you.
