Feng Shui Tip: Decorating with Mirrors
Any decorator will tell you that mirrors brighten a living area by reflecting sunlight and give the illusion of more space.

They can also heighten a room's energy, says Terah Kathryn Collins, founder of the Western School of Feng Shui in Solana Beach, Calif., and author of The Western Guide to Feng Shui: Room by Room (Hay House, 1999). To learn how to hang mirrors most effectively in your home, follow these tips from Collins:
- Make sure mirrors reflect a pleasing view.
The living room mirror should reflect the trees outside rather than the chaos on your television screen, for example. - Avoid mirrors where you sleep.
Their energy can offset a bedroom's cozy qi. If you must have one, cover it with a scarf at sundown and uncover it after you wake up in the morning. - Use whole mirrors, not segmented ones.
A fragmented mirror can reflect a fragmented image of yourself, which may leave you feeling, well, fragmented.
