GYM Urban Rebounder

Take a bounce on this mini-trampoline for a seriously fun workout.

I moved recently and had to give up my beloved treadmill (it was too noisy for my new surroundings), and ever since I've been on the hunt for a quieter replacement. Luckily, I've discovered something that I'll use just as often: the GYM Urban Rebounder ($100-$120; urbanrebounding.com or Dick's Sporting Goods stores nationwide), a mini-trampoline that can be folded up and stored when not in use.

You don't jump on it—you bounce lightly and do other moves, like squats and jogging in place. I popped in the accompanying DVD and started with the "First Timer" workout, in which personal trainer JB Berns (creator of the GYM Urban Rebounder) takes you through 30 minutes of exercises like the "basic bounce" and the "twist" using his enthusiastic James Brown-esque delivery (he peppers his instructions with exclamations like "huh!").

After just a few minutes, my heart rate was up and I was starting to sweat—but I had a big smile on my face. Honestly, I've never had so much fun working out. There's something very energizing and freeing about bouncing on a trampoline. And because it's a low-impact exercise, it's easy on your joints. Plus, on JB's website (urbanrebounding.com) you can order additional trampoline workouts like ballet and kickboxing to keep things interesting. Consider me a convert.

Rebounding is great. It's also known for giving you a face lift/body lift. Working your muscles in opposite directions keeps you taught all over. Great for balance training as well.
