Make One Change:
A Cause For Change
There's a simple way to put your two cents (or more) to work for humanity.
Simone Samano
Giving money to a
charity creates good
karma, but it isn't
always easy when you have
only pennies to give. Luckily,
pennies-and more valuable
coins-are lying all over
your house. Check your coat
pockets, empty that bowl on
the dresser, and look under
those couch cushions. The
small fortune you've been
sitting on could afford you
an opportunity to give. And
Coinstar offers a program
that makes donating your
loose change super simple.
At most of Coinstar's
13,000 self-service coincounting
kiosks in drugstores
and supermarkets, you can
choose a "donate" option on
the menu before pouring
in your stash to be tallied
up. Prompts will lead you
to organizations like the
American Red Cross, March
of Dimes, the U.S. Fund for
UNICEF, and the World Wildlife
Fund, all of which have
already received more than
$20 million in coin donations
since 1997. If you prefer
nonprofits closer to home,
Coinstar also partners with
local organizations. There is
no service fee, so your taxdeductible
receipt will reflect
the full amount of your
donation-and every penny
will go to a good cause. To

you, as well as a list of charities,
