Green Path organic wine

Here's a boxed wine that's delicious, inexpensive, and eco-friendly.

The summer of 2007 is winding down. (Yes, I, too, have begun phase-one mourning.) But the weather is still warm enough for some final barbecues and picnics, and I've discovered a light and refreshing wine that's easy to bring along to my next outdoor (or indoor) gathering: Green Path organic boxed wine ($12; available at Whole Foods Markets).

If white wine is your thing, you'll find the Chardonnay light and fruity, slightly sweet, slightly tart. If you go for red, the Shiraz is a must: I brought it to a recent get-together and it was big hit. It's not quite as full-bodied as a lot of red wines, making it perfect for light picnic fare.

Boxed wine often gets a bad rap, but since Green Path is packaged in a Tetra Pak carton, a sustainable, 100% recyclable container made from renewable resources, it's also eco-friendly. Plus, it allows you to squeeze out air before resealing (so the wine stays as fresh as possible) and helps avoid spoilage with 100 percent protection from UV rays. Cheers to that!
