Turns out the ingredient in your morning cup of joe that boosts your energy level has a similarly invigorating effect on your skin. “Caffeine naturally stimulates enzymes that break down fat cells and promote the movement of fluid out of cells, which decreases their size and produces a temporary tightening effect,” says Bruce Katz, M.D., director of the Juva Skin and Laser Center and clinical professor of dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, both in New York City. “Caffeine’s ability to constrict blood vessels and reduce inflammation helps reduce fine lines and minimizes dark circles,” he adds.
