5 Steps to the Perfect Face

Always wish you were born with a naturally perfect complexion? The right products—and the right technique—can step in where your DNA didn’t. Here, everything you need to know to leave your house looking like the best possible version of you.

1. Prep it up
(a) Use a gentle exfoliating scrub on your face to remove dead skin cells. Exfoliation creates a smooth surface for makeup and allows your moisturizer to absorb completely into your skin, says Tina Turnbow, a New York-based makeup artist who shares her tips for creating a clean, natural face.
Try: Origins Modern Friction Nature’s gentle dermabrasion ($38; origins.com).
(b) Apply an eye cream around your eyes to help fill in wrinkles and fine lines. Tip: Avoid gel formulas, which can break into pieces when you apply makeup over them.
Try: derma é Tropical Solutions Anti-Aging Eye Crème ($20; dermae.com).
(c) If your lips are chapped and flaking, take a baby wipe and rub gently in a circular motion to remove dry patches; or gently smooth rough spots with an exfoliating lip scrub. Then, apply a conditioning balm to hydrate lips.
Try: LUSH Mint Julips Lip Scrub ($9; lushusa.com).

2. Get even
Tinted moisturizers are an easy way to reduce redness and even out your skin tone, says Turnbow. Choose a product with golden undertones. “Test shades on the back of your hand to see if they are a good match,” she says. Use your fingertips or a foundation brush to smooth the moisturizer over your entire face.
